Great things happen in the Upstate when industry and education come together to impact workforce development.
― Dr. Keith Miller ―
In 2012, Upstate industry leaders identified K-12 education as a challenge to career readiness and a taskforce was formed to address this challenge. That same taskforce launched the Upstate SC STEM Collaborative in November of 2013.
In and out of the classroom, it became clear to the collaborative that students were hungry for MORE and it was our responsibility to provide every child with the OPPORTUNITY to succeed in school and in their careers. Out of school intervention is a proven method for reaching students and increasing student preparedness. The free festival and series of experiences was the catalyst for a driving workforce-focused solution to out of school intervention. The iMAGINE Upstate Festival is the direct result of this vision and the Upstate SC STEM Collaborative.
More than a festival, iMAGINE Upstate is the most engaging and innovative celebration in South Carolina. Industry leaders, schools, families, and community leaders have come together to be part of this day of wonder and hands-on learning inspired by foundations in science, technology, engineering, arts & mathematics (STEAM).
The inaugural festival brought 14,000 community members to downtown Greenville to participate in 62 STEAM experiences. The second annual festival grew tremendously with an estimated 20,000 in attendance participating in over 80 STEAM experiences. The third annual festival is well on its way to inspiring thousands upon thousands. The more we see the program grow, the more we are able to serve and prepare the next generation of Upstate leaders.
